We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel-Rare Disease who is a knowledgeable, driven self-starter to join us on our Rare Disease Legal Affairs team, based in our Atlanta, Georgia corporate headquarters. This is an in-office role but remote work may be considered based on past experience level.

The Counsel will provide day-to-day legal support to the U.S. Rare Disease Patient Value Unit and its U.S. portfolio. This role will provide legal support to all elements of the cross-functional teams responsible for launch and commercialization of U.S. Rare Disease brands and services.


About the role

In this role you will provide legal advice and guidance on FDA regulatory matters, including promotion and advertising regulation, as well as anti-kickback and fraud & abuse considerations. You will also proactively counsel and provide strategic advice to the marketing and sales organization within UCB’s Rare Disease business.


The Senior Counsel – Rare Disease U.S. will have significant interaction with senior commercial operations colleagues and some exposure to other senior leadership to accomplish overall business objectives.


Who you’ll work with

  • Internal stakeholders in the sales and marketing organization, regulatory affairs, medical affairs, compliance and other functions.
  • Senior commercial operations colleagues and some exposure to other senior leadership to accomplish overall business objectives.


What you’ll do
  • Proactively counsel and provide strategic advice to UCB’s U.S. Rare Disease business
  • Provide legal advice and guidance on FDA regulatory matters, including promotion and advertising regulation, as well as anti-kickback and fraud & abuse considerations
  • Prepare for new product launches
  • Manage a portfolio of complex matters within a sub-unit of the U.S. Rare Disease business
  • Negotiate and draft documents for the U.S. Rare Disease business, including commercial agreements
  • Advise on key business initiatives including market research, real world evidence, and scientific congresses


Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
  • U.S. attorney with a minimum of 8 years of experience with focus in pharmaceutical/healthcare law; preferably including 2+ years’ experience in house as a product attorney
  • Graduate of an accredited U.S. law school with academic achievement, licensed and in good standing to practice law in Georgia or another state
  • Professional experience providing counsel to the pharmaceutical, medical device, or life sciences industry
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and handle multiple, often complex projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FDA regulatory and anti-kickback laws
  • Ideally experience with product launches and/or launching new indications
